After Purity Podcast Coming November 4!

I am very excited to be collaborating with Axis Mundi Media, a podcast network from Straight White American Jesus. We are producing a documentary series called Pure White: Sexual Purity and White Supremacy.

This 8-part series examines the racial origins of evangelical purity culture beginning in the 19th century. We will trace the idea of sexual virtue from its origins in the Cult of True Womanhood and explain how purity became an effective tool for policing the boundaries between Black and White during Jim Crow segregation.

We’ll also look at how purity culture analysis helps us understand the clergy sex abuse crisis in the Southern Baptist Church, stereotypes about welfare recipients, White women’s participation in the January 6 insurrection and so much more.
